Anna Erickson Presents Sol Kordich at Untitled Miami 2023, the artist’s first solo exhibition in the United States. Kordich’s lush, fleshy compositions are created through a combined process of structured layering and intuitive gestures, which the artist conceives as a kind of metaphysical map, exposing the invisible networks and currents of energy that bridge the time-space continuum.
To Kordich, the past, present and future exist within the physical parameters of each canvas, unfolding both linearly and in cycles. Visually, this concept manifests in swirling vortexes, swaths of color, and suggestions of vaguely familiar forms that ebb and flow across her compositions. Kordich’s artistic practice contains its own rituals. She fills journals with celestial diagrams, astrological symbols, linguistic equations, and existential drawings.
The journal provides an entry point for understanding Kordich’s visual language—a combination of disembodied mark-making and controlled chaos reminiscent of particle structures, whirlpools, event horizons and other natural wonders. Before applying a single paint stroke, Kordich inscribes each blank canvas with seemingly random thoughts, lines of poetry, or song lyrics. She believes this simple act allows her work to evolve organically, but with intention. The original words will ultimately recede under the layers upon layers of semi-translucent colors that ultimately coalesce in the final work.
Sol Kordich was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1995. The artist studied architecture at the University of Buenos Aires and has been based in Berlin since 2020.
